On October 18th, 2025 Coahuiltecan Elder Masauki Zepeda hosted a drum and feather healing workshop for the Urban Bird Project on west campus at UT San Antonio. This session was provided for students of the Community-Engaged Research Methods in Environmental Justice course which is offered in the Fall semester. Masauki is a revered Coahuiltecan Elder in the local Indigenous Community and Traditional Healer with the Texas Native American Church/Tap Pilam. During the workshop, Masauki offered Indigenous shamanic healing to the students by way of bird feathers and ceremonial prayer fans, guided by Samuel Martinez with the drum. Through this experience, both were able to transport the group to a space and time where healing can take place for each individual person through the feather and drum medicine. UBP is always honored to receive blessings in this way from Masauki and his Bird Healers.
